Nail fungal diseases are also known as onychomycosis with its medical name. It is a fungal infection that can appear as a white or yellow spot on the toenails and fingernails. It is a disease caused by a type of fungus called dermatophyte. These fungi, called dermatophytes, are mold and yeast fungi of the Candida species. It can cause shape changes, thickening and odor in the nail. It can also spread from a single nail to other toenails. Nail fungus can occur at any age.
