İngrown hair
One of the problems that our patients who come to the general surgery outpatient clinic of our hospital have problems with is ingrown hairs.
What is ingrown hair?
Hair rot, which is called "pylonoidal sinus" in medicine, is the hair socket that occurs under the skin. It is the fact that the pores that allow body hair to grow out are closed, so that the hairs cannot come out and are buried under the skin. This disease, which is caused by the combination of hair, fat and tissue under the skin, to form inflamed tissue, makes individuals very uncomfortable. This disease, which can also be defined as hair-filled cysts, usually occurs in the hip region. Depending on the amount of hair collected in the area, the swelling may increase. Excess weight, inadequate hygiene, sitting too much and sweating are among the factors that cause ingrown hairs. It is a disorder that is more common in hairy areas and the reason it occurs especially in the coccyx region is that this area is a very hairy area.
What are the Symptoms of Hair Rotation?
This disease, which does not show many symptoms at first, starts to show symptoms over time. The discomfort it causes to the person and the ingrown hair that can be seen if it grows are the main symptoms of the disease. Other symptoms of ingrown hair are pain in the area of the ingrown hair, inflammatory discharge, bad odor from time to time, itching and burning. Diagnosis and Treatment of Ingrown Hair If the ingrown hair problems that can be diagnosed with a physical examination of the doctor cause a lot of pain and bleeding, a blood test for inflammation may also be requested. While planning the treatment, antibiotics and painkillers can be used for inflammation and discharge conditions.
Consultation from the infection department specialist may be requested. In addition, drug injection can be applied to the hairy area. In non-surgical treatments for ingrown hairs, the recommended method is usually surgical interventions, as ingrown hairs may recur.
With the endoscopic method, the inflamed area is detected and burned. Apart from this, hair rotation surgery, which is the most definitive solution, is planned according to the patient's condition. The inflamed and ingrown tissue is taken out and the opened incision is closed. The care of this area after the operation is very important. Creams can be used on the area, a hot shower is recommended and sweating should be avoided as much as possible. Our general surgeon will diagnose the disease after the examination and, if necessary, will contact our infectious diseases specialist to plan your treatment and help you.
