Dental Implants

What is an implant?

Implants are screws made of titanium that are used in the treatment of missing teeth and placed inside the jawbone. A dental prosthesis is placed on these screws. The implant acts as a tooth root and performs its functions as easily as a natural tooth.

To Whom Is Dental Implant Applied?

Dental deficiencies of patients who have lost their natural teeth due to caries, fractures or gum disease are treated by placing artificial roots that best mimic the natural tooth, called implant. The range of treatment is wide enough to cover the treatment of patients who have lost all their teeth due to missing teeth. Implant treatment is applied to people who have completed their facial and chin development and are over the age of 18. Before treatment, the suitability of the individual's jaw structure for treatment is determined by x-rays. People with missing teeth experience functional and aesthetic problems.

Implants; It is applied to people who have lost their teeth due to periodontal disease, caries, trauma or any other reason. Individuals with healthy gums and jawbones who have enough bone to support the implants and who do good oral care can be implanted. However, in some cases, the amount of bone is not sufficient for implant placement. When bone loss is high, advanced techniques can be applied and the implants can be placed by providing the appropriate infrastructure for implant placement.

How Is Implant Treatment Performed?

Detailed examination and x-ray are required for implant treatment. In implant treatment, local or general anesthesia is applied to the patient. Measurements of jaw bones and teeth are taken. In accordance with the previously determined bone thickness and height, a place for the implant is prepared in the bone and placed. In the second stage of the implant application, after waiting for a certain period of time, depending on the condition of the bone and the jaw applied, for the implant to integrate with the bone, the covered implant is opened and the part imitating the tooth is placed and the prosthesis procedures are started. There are two options for placing dental implants. In the one-step procedure, a temporary cap is attached after the implant is placed. In the two-stage process, after the dental implant is placed, it is covered with the gum and left to heal.

Prosthetic heads are then attached. In both cases, a temporary bridge is placed and a healing period of 3 months for the lower jaw and 6 months for the upper jaw is expected. Sometimes newly made teeth can be placed on dental implants immediately. With a dental implant, the patient can safely laugh and eat. Zirconium implants are used to increase durability in narrow jawbones. Zirconium implants are made to increase the resistance of implants made of titanium. Zirconium is white close to natural tooth color and reflects light. For this reason, it is useful in terms of aesthetics as well as durability.
