Trauma Surgery
What Is Trauma Surgery?
Physical injuries that occur when the body encounters resistance that the bones, soft tissues and joints cannot meet during an activity are called trauma. In particular, trauma injuries such as bone fractures, muscle tears and limb ruptures are among the issues of the orthopedics department.
Injuries as a result of trauma, temporary or permanent loss of workforce, psychological and other problems can also occur. In order to prevent such situations, first intervention and treatment after trauma must be done quickly.
What Are The Symptoms That Can Be Seen in The Area Exposed to Trauma?
Swelling and bruising in the relevant area
Sensitivity
Movement restriction
Numbness and tingling
Bleeding due to injury
Dislocated bone
Fast and good results in very common injuries are possible only with modern and effective treatment methods. To mention these;
Functional fixation technique: It is a new plastering technique that allows shorter, semi-rigid, early loading and muscle function instead of classical hard and long plastering in cases that do not require surgery. Plaster used here does not cause itching, allergies, and allows easy bathing or even swimming in the sea-pool.
Bone stimuli: Especially in stress fractures and small bone fractures, bone healing time is reduced by half with ultrasonic wave.
Closed intramedullary nailing techniques: These are techniques applied in most of the fractures (simple-piece) and hip fractures of the long bones in the legs and arms, without opening the fracture line, made from 2-3 cm incisions and shortening the fracture healing time.
Small intervention operations performed with arthroscopic help: These are techniques that enable the detection of fractures in some of the intra-articular fractures without opening the joint; thus reducing the possibility of joint stiffness that may occur after surgery, shortening the time to achieve physical therapy and full function.
Especially in bone fractures, the material to be used may vary according to the location and shape of the fracture. In fracture surgery, screws, plates, nails made of titanium or steel are sometimes used. External fixators can also be used in the temporary fixation of the fracture or in cases where stabilization from the outside is more beneficial.
The specialist physician applies radiological imaging methods for diagnosis and treatment is performed by surgical intervention or stabilization of the trauma area, if necessary, after the diagnosis.
