Nasal Diseases
Inflammations of the nose and sinuses,
Inflammation of the mucosa lining the sinus cavities is called sinusitis. There are a total of eight sinuses, four of which are on the right and left sides. The secretory glands in the sinus mucosa accumulate 0.5-1 lt. mucus daily. Here, it is a disease caused by emptying mucus or snot into the sinus by not transferring it to the nose.
Conditions such as cystic fibrosis movement disorders, HIV infection (AIDS), chemotherapies, use of drugs that suppress the body defense system, insulin-induced diabetes and some connective tissue diseases may cause sinusitis by disrupting the production and or transport of mucus. Disease progresses in major and minor.
In major sinusitis, symptoms such as facial pain, swelling, runny nose and nasal discharge, and nasal congestion are observed. In minor sinusitis, symptoms such as headache, toothache, and cough are observed. Antibiotic treatment is started in sinusitis classified as acute, subacute and chronic. "Endoscopic Sinus Surgery" is performed by specialist physicians in our hospital in chronic sinusitis patients.
Nasal congestion, allergic flu, odor disorders
It is a condition in which the body has an allergic reaction to pollen, house dust, drugs, chemicals and certain foods. The immune system is the body's response to these allergens entering the body. Sensitive immune system, chemical allergens, house dust and mites, animal hair and some environmental factors are important risk factors for the development of this disease. There are symptoms such as constant sneezing sensation, nasal congestion and discharge, watery eyes, nasal discharge, headache, dry cough. In its treatment, antihistamines (oral and spray), cortisone (corticosteroid) sprays and salt water, nasal drops are prescribed.
Tumors in the nose and sinus region
Tumors called ‘papillomas‘, which are benign in the nose and its surroundings and sinuses, are common. Papillomas can sometimes develop into malignant tumors.
Fibromas, neurinomas and osteomas are less common benign tumors. MRI and computed tomography are required to diagnose these diseases.
Since its symptoms are similar to sinusitis disease, it is likely to be noticed in advanced stages.
The treatment process progresses surgically. Surgical surgery is also required to treat the malignant tumor. At the same time, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are applied after surgery.
Nasal Polyp Treatment
They are light pink colored masses that occur as a result of inflammation of the mucous membranes in the sinus and nasal tract and appear in the nasal cavities. Nasal polyps may occur due to hereditary causes, allergies, chronic sinusitis, and drug sensitivity. The course of the disease is monitored by administering steroid-containing drugs into the nose. In the control examination, computed tomography is requested and the severity of the disease is checked. Endoscopic sinus surgery may be recommended depending on the situation.
Endoscopic sinus surgery
In endoscopic sinus surgery, the main purpose is to clean the tissues and fluids that cause the problem in the sinuses and to re-ventilate the sinus. It occurs with the elimination of the disease that obstructs the excretory canal in the sinus.
Endoscopic sinus surgery is used in the treatment of many diseases such as chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis, treatment of benign and malignant diseases in the nose, reduction of the nasal flesh, correction of deviations in the nose.
The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia with the help of a special technological tool with a camera at the end through the nose. Without an incision and without stitches, the process is completed with the help of a tool called a microshaver.
Nasal deformities, septum deviation surgery
Septum deviation refers to the curvatures in the middle line of the nose. Curvatures in the bone and cartilage structures in the middle line of the nose are corrected by surgical intervention. This surgery is known as septoplasty.
The process takes approximately 40 minutes with standard closed technique septoplasty surgeries.
