Hypertension

What Is Hypertension?

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is the high pressure of blood in the blood vessels against the vessel wall.

Blood pressure, in short, the blood pressure applied to the vein walls, is determined by the amount of blood pumped by the person's heart, as well as the amount of resistance to blood flow in the arteries or veins. Systolic, popularly known as high blood pressure, is the pressure when the heart contracts, while diastolic, known as low blood pressure, is the pressure when the heart relaxes.

Everyone over the age of 18 should have a resting normal high blood pressure of 120mmHg and a low blood pressure of 80 mmHg. In three separate measurements, hypertension can be diagnosed if the high blood pressure is higher than 140 mmHg and the low blood pressure is higher than 90 mmHg. Because people have shown no symptoms for years, they can live without knowing they have hypertension.

What Are The Symptoms of Hypertension?

Hypertension may not show symptoms in some patients, but in this process, it can cause serious damage to our organs such as heart, kidney and brain. Symptoms such as shortness of breath, heart palpitations, chest pain, dizziness and headache, weakness, fatigue, frequent urination, nosebleeds, difficulty in seeing, ringing in the ears, edema in the body are the most common.

What Are The Causes of Hypertension?

In the vast majority of hypertension patients, approximately 95%, there is no specific cause, but environmental and genetic factors, high salt consumption, sedentary life, and overweight are common conditions that cause hypertension.

In addition to these, conditions such as kidney diseases, birth control pills, thyroid diseases, heart diseases, sleep apnea, smoking and alcohol consumption, stress can cause hypertension, despite not frequently. After a certain age, the risk of hypertension increases. Hypertension usually occurs in adults, but children are also at risk. Although it is usually seen in children due to kidney and heart diseases, it can also be caused by reasons such as poor nutrition and lack of exercise.

What Are Hypertension Treatments?

Hypertension can also be the cause of other diseases and may pose some risks for us. These diseases and risks may include stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, clot, vascular occlusion, renal failure, heart failure, heart attack, and aneurysm enlargement and rupture. Therefore, hypertension is a disease that should be recognized with early diagnosis, prevented from progressing and treated with the right methods.

Drugs have an important place in the treatment of hypertension, and apart from this, adherence to the diet and continuity of exercise, and reduction of smoking and alcohol consumption, which are under the control of the patient, are also very important in terms of the effectiveness and efficiency of the treatments.
