Heart Failure

As another disease that our hospital's cardiology outpatient clinic deals with, heart failure impairs the functions of the heart and affects the life of the individual.

What Is Heart Failure?

In some cases, heart failure occurs due to the heart's inability to pump enough blood and being tired more than normal. As a result of this deterioration, fluid may accumulate in the lungs. In order to correct this deteriorating condition of the heart, it can begin to expand and grow. Permanent damage to tissues and organs may also occur due to the problem in the way the heart works. Heart failure can also be a chronic disease and constitutes the majority of heart failure patients. Although heart failure, which is a serious type of disease, is more common in men, the death rate may be higher in women.

Heart Failure Symptoms

Symptoms of heart failure worsen as the disease progresses. It is very important to notice these symptoms and treat them before they get too far. Symptoms of frequent heart failure can be listed as follows:
Shortness of breath
Fatigue, early fatigue
Loss of appetite,
Cough and pink or white sputum
Frequent urination at night
Constant sleepiness

What Are The Causes of Heart Failure?

Insufficient blood pumping may be due to weakness in the heart muscle or the inability of the heart muscle to relax normally. The major sources of heart failure are hypertension and diabetes. Some heart and heart valve diseases can also cause this condition. Heart failure occurs when the heart is weakened or damaged due to diseases. Genetic factors and the coronary artery also play an important role in the occurrence of the disease, and if you have this disease in your family, you are at high risk of having it.

Heart Failure Diagnosis

The patient should consult a doctor as a result of the symptoms, and a physical examination is performed after the patient's complaints are listened to. It can be diagnosed using technological methods such as electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography (echo), heart radiography, scintigraphy, angiography, heart MRI and holter. As a result of these examinations, it is evaluated whether the symptoms are due to heart failure. Treatment should be started immediately after diagnosis.

Heart Failure Treatment

As the beginning of the treatment, it is aimed to stop the tissue damage and eliminate the negative symptoms in the daily life of the patient. The patient should pay attention to salt and fluid consumption, regulate his diet and lifestyle.

In heart failure, a treatment method is applied depending on the stage of the disease. Patients who are approved for medication may usually have to use more than one medication.

Medications should be used in the right dosage. If it is due to rhythm or valve problems and causes vascular occlusion, these diseases are primarily treated with surgical methods such as angiography, stent, heart valve operation and bypass.

When necessary, batteries that correct the rhythm problem or that are effective in the more effective functioning of the heart can be inserted. In the last stage, heart transplantation is applied.

Our cardiologist will cooperate with other units related to the disease when necessary and will determine the most appropriate treatment method for you after the correct diagnosis.
