Stomach Balloon Treatment

What Is Stomach Balloon Treatment?

Stomach balloon treatment is applied to patients with a body mass index of 28-34. In this application, a balloon filled with water made of a soft silicone is placed in the patient's stomach. This balloon gives the patient a feeling of fullness. In cases where obesity surgery cannot be performed due to excessive weight, it is a procedure that can be performed for the patient to lose weight in a short time to be taken to surgery. It is also a very successful procedure as an alternative procedure in weight loss for those who are not positive for sleeve gastrectomy.

How Is Gastric Balloon Treatment Applied?

With our gastric balloon application, the 6-month or annual balloon is placed in the stomach by endoscopic method. With this procedure, it is aimed to create a feeling of fullness by taking up space in the patient's stomach with a balloon. There are two different types of balloons. A fixed volume swallowable gastric balloon is placed in the stomach and while no volume adjustment can not be made afterwards, the adjustable gastric balloon can be adjusted according to the patient's stomach volume. These balloons can be inflated and deflated according to your weight loss capacity and ratio. It can be ensured that patients lose 25-30% of their excess weight. Patients can lose an average of 10-40 kilograms. The balloon should be removed after about a year. Removal of the balloon is again provided by endoscopic procedure.

For Whom Is Gastric Balloon Therapy Not Suitable?

If you have stomach problems such as ulcers, reflux, etc., gastric balloon treatment is not suitable for you. Complaints such as nausea, cramps, etc. are observed in the first week after gastric balloon treatment. These complaints normalize after the first two weeks. It is possible to say that the first week is the adaptation phase.

What Are The Considerations After Gastric Balloon Treatment?

In each treatment method, it is a necessity for patients to continue their diet and sports programs for a lifetime. Since each patient has different structures, the treatment method, post-treatment procedures and diets may vary. Liquid diet is recommended for the first week after the operation. In the second week, a liquid-puree diet is given. Then, the process of normalization with liquid-solid and standard diet begins gradually (after about three weeks).

Our obesity surgeon will be with you with diet and internal medicine support until the procedure to be performed with personalized endoscopic or surgical methods according to the patient's suitability is jointly decided and the target weight is reached.
