Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a therapy approach based on scientific evidence. It is one of the most widely used types of psychotherapy today. CBT is a short-term, present-oriented and structured psychotherapy method.

In this approach, the focus is on current problems that enable the person to apply for psychotherapy. It not only solves the current problems of people, but also provides some skills that can be used to solve life-long problems.

Cognitive behavioral therapy gives thought a central role in the conceptualization and treatment of psychological disorders.

CBT emphasizes that the environment in which the person lives, the events he/she experiences, the way he/she perceives these events, his/her emotional reactions and behaviors interact with each other. From these areas of the person's problem and interaction with each other, the focus is primarily on thought and behavior.

CBT teaches people to find their thoughts related to situations they are experiencing distress and to examine how realistic and appropriate these thoughts are. The person reshapes his/her appropriate and non-functional thoughts and develops realistic and appropriate ways of thinking instead of these thoughts. In this way, it is ensured that the person's feelings and behaviors change.

The therapy process usually begins with cognitive (thought) interventions. This is followed by changes in behavior. In some cases, it starts in the behavioral field first.

During therapy, the client and the therapist collaborate to identify and understand various problems, aiming for healing. In addition, it is aimed to apply the skills learned during the treatment to the daily life of the person.
